Visual Description:  David L. Hoyt laying a big old rotten egg.

PUREP  =  UPPER,  KNURT  =  TRUNK,  AUNLAN  =  ANNUAL,  CEHNAG  =  CHANGE   —   Giving us:  PTNNUGE

Clue/Question:  The Jumble artist refused to draw the cartoon because he thought the wordplay was . . .

Answer:  PUNGENT

(Wow.  I think if old Hoyt ever does try to float that totally lame Zombie gag . . . I just might have to hang up this here keyboard!  “DIE-PER”?!?!  Pee-yew!  That is putidus!  Hey, guess what, guys? Today’s Jumble was not solved by yer uncle!  Nope.  I let the sweet baby girl handle it, today.  I was just there to say: That’s right.  She had a little trouble with “annual”, but she got it.  She even picked up on “trunk” just being spelled backwards.  I told her:  Yeah, that happens, sometimes.  Hoyt’s probably going to blame an editor . . . again.  LOL!  No new clue words.  Answer letter layout was so-so.  Great cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Balut are NOT rotten eggs . . . but, you’ll never get me to eat one!   —   YUR

Ewww, I don’t know about that picture! Tell “baby girl” she was not the only one stumbling on annual! The puzzle was rather a groaner — but a fun groaner! Still had me thinking.

I think the reverse spelling on trunk, Knurt, was deliberate, how could you resist if your name is Knurek?

By the way, are Jeff and Dave OK today, (Jan 13)? Today’s jumble was recycled from March 22 1996, you can tell right away that drawing is an Argirion.

Sowberry, The pun may have been used, Not sure. (That would have been 16+ years ago if it was. Wow, that’s some memory!) The was not recycled, ever. BTW- Argirion was not the Jumble artist, it was Henri Arnold (for 54 years). Oh, wait. Are you talking about online? On Sunday’s, the online versions are repeats of classic Jumbles. We don’t have an online Sunday puzzle. So that may indeed have been an Argirion/Arnold one. Thanks for Jumbling!
