Clue/Question:  After getting injured, the horse was now in . . .

(A nice long 15 letter answer!  All of today’s clue words were old friends, but they were all jumbled very well.  The answer letter layout was fantastic!  I’m thinking Jeff is not a big fan of horses.  But, he seems to like . . . cowboys.  Hmm!  I bet he’s a closet Village Peoples fan.   He was rooting for Mucho Macho Man.  Congrats to Fort Larned.  Very impressive win.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Clue/Question:  After sinking the shot from off the green, he was . . .

Answer:  CHIPPER

(Cool.  People who don’t know much about golf may have struggled with this one.  Now, all we need is an explanation from Jeff as to who these two characters are.  All the clue words were tried and true, although there were some interesting jumblings.  And, I enjoyed the answer letter layout.  Nice way to start the week, guys.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Gotta love it!  If it wasn’t for the San Francisco Giants‘ 4 game sweep – Didja hear dat, Knurek? – this might have coincided with the World Series!  Belated Congrats to the Giants, and their fans!  Condolences to the Detroit Tigers, and their fans.  This is also a good Jumble on a nostalgic, quasi-geeky level.  I was all in on the first three Star Wars movies.  I watched the first “prequel”, and threw in the towel.  I also lost interest after the second Lord of the Rings movie, and the same pretty much went for the Harry Potter movies.  I probably saw the first three of those, and maybe an occasional one after that.  I like sci-fi and fantasy, but only in small doses.  After all, I’m a word-nerd . . . not a total nerd.

I flew through – threw? – the clue words, today!  And, they all happened to be jumbled rather well.  As I suspected, “miffed” is new to the Jumble world.  ralis95 has another word to add to his database.  I really liked today’s answer letter layout.  I might have switched the order of “miffed” and “drench” though.  And, I loved the cartoon.  For some reason, it reminds me of the VW commercial, with the little boy in the Darth Vader outfit.  I love that commercial!  I think the answer required a bit of thought.  I wouldn’t doubt that some of you guys had some trouble figuring out this answer.  This might have made a good Unclerave’s Wiseguy of the Day contest.  But, who has time for those these days?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Count your blessings, people!  If you need a reminder of how good you actually have it, think about the people who have lost EVERYTHING, due to Hurricane Sandy.  So many shore towns in New Jersey have been totally devastated.  But also cities such as Hoboken, New Brunswick and Jersey City were severely damaged by flooding, and MANY are still without power, and, of course, heat.  Parts of Staten Island were decimated, and hundreds there have been left homeless.  The death toll for New York City alone is up to 41, with 19 of the fatalities coming from Staten Island.  Manhattan’s Lower East side was also hard hit.  I have friends in Long Beach, Long Island who lost everything to flooding.  And, much of Brooklyn and Queens were totally wrecked by this freak storm, especially The Rockaways.  But the worst of the worst is Breezy Point, NY.  While these people were dealing with the rising flood waters, and the 70+ mile an hour winds, a monstrous fire broke out.  The high winds carried the burning embers to so many rooftops, resulting in the eventual, inevitable, total loss of over 100 houses.  Hundreds of people there have absolutely nothing to go back to, including – ironically – many FDNY and NYPD members.  In the spirit of counting your blessings, please consider making an emergency contribution on behalf of all who were adversely affected by this horrible “frankenstorm”.  Here are a few organizations that I think would be the most appropriate for your consideration:

The American Red Cross

The Salvation Army

Feeding America

New York Cares

The National Firefighters’ Endowment

and for all our affected furry, finny and feathered friends:

The Humane Society of the United States

The American Humane Association

North Shore Animal League America

Whatever you can spare, I know it will be greatly appreciated.  Be well and do good, friends.

Fred Jackson of the Buffalo Bills

Visual Description:  Me, on any given Sunday during Football season.

Clue/Question:  The team’s loss turned the pub into a . . .

Answer:  WHINE BAR

Handoff to Fred Jackson

Handoff to Fred Jackson (Photo credit: runneralan2004)

(I’m the guy at the bar, with his hands in the air, asking:  Why the Hell are they asking Fitzpatrick to throw on first and second down so much?  They’ve got two very talented running backs, who would love to get the ball more!  Do they want this kid – and the team – to fail???  I know that run, run, pass and – hopefully NOT – punt ALL the time CAN get kind of predictable.  But, there IS a very good reason why most teams rely on the formula for the majority of their possessions.  Yeah, mix it up a little, from time to time.  But, the probabilities are generally in your favor when you keep it on the ground, on first and second down.  The beauty of football is that it ISN’T rocket science.

Jumble???  Oh, yeah.  Words like “weigh” are a little hard to hide, so I’ve got no beef with that jumble.  But “blink” was just spelled backwards, man!  What is this?  The hiding in plain sight strategy?  I did think that both “dreamy” and “tights” were jumbled very well.  And, the answer letter layout was FA-BU-LOUS!  That’s for my LGBT readers.  And, Jeff draws a nice sports bar scene.  But, what self-respecting guy has a glass of wine while watching the game?  Perfectly acceptable for the ladies, of course.  But, us guys are supposed to drink beer, or something on the rocks, or even a soft-drink, when watching sports.  Save the wine for a cocktail reception, or a nice sit down dinner.  So, there.  That’s what I think of your stinking “bonus clue”, Knurek!  LOL!  Be well and do good, guys.)   —   YUR

Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock (Photo credit: twm1340)

A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it.”   —   Alfred Hitchcock

(I’d be hard-pressed to remember the last time I even went to a move, let alone making a night of it, with dinner n’ all.  If there was someone like Hitchcock out there, today – making intelligent movies – I might actually change my ways.  Remakes and sequels and other derivative garbage seem to be the order of the day.  I would like to see the Daniel Day Lewis Lincoln film though.  And, perhaps that Life of Pi.  But, even with the films that interest me, I usually wait for them to come out on DVD and Blue Ray.  Too little time, too little money and too little energy.  I think I’m turning into that cranky old man, from my childhood.  Hey, you kids!  Get offa my lawn!  Oh, well.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Rooster (Photo credit: Jim Bahn)

Visual Description:  Cranky cock, up on his perch.

Clue/Question:  The rooster was in a . . .

Answer:  FOWL MOOD

(I like it, a lot!  No new clue words, but everything was jumbled really well.  The answer letter layout didn’t give anything away.  Jeff’s great cartoon sets up the gag perfectly.  The guys gotta take a break from these fill-in-the-blank/continuation ones.  They’re getting too easy.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
