A Christmas Story House

Visual Description:  David L. Hoyt, in some strange parody of “A Christmas Story.”

NOION  =  ONION,  TECAN  =  ENACT,  LUDEMO  =  MODULE,  WLFOOL  =  FOLLOW   —   Giving us:  ONTMDELW

Clue/Question:  When her freezer stopped working, she had a . . .

Answer:  MELTDOWN

(Not bad.  No new clue words again, but the jumbling of the words was great.  I really liked “enact” and “module”.  Good job on the answer letter layout, as well!  The cartoon puts me in mind of “A Christmas Story”, when the father goes to plug in his lady-leg-lamp, with the frilly lamp shade.  “It’s a major award!”  The extension plug(s) is/are jam-packed with all these other plugs.  And, of course, when he turns on the lamp he blows a fuse!  I think he had two or three five-way adapters plugged into that one, sorry little outlet.  That movie is must-see holiday fare!  Even more-so than “It’s a Wonderful Life”!  Be well and do good, friends.  Christmas is coming fast!)   —   YUR

It’s been my policy to view the internet not as an “information highway,” but as an electronic asylum filled with babbling loonies.”   —   Mike Royko

(Very true, Mike.  But, the diehard Unclerave readers consider this site a kind of oasis of sanity!  But, you know what bugs me?  The rule that places punctuation inside of the quotation marks, when the quoted words are part of another sentence.  What is up with that?  If the quoted words don’t normally have any punctutaion associated with them then why would the punctuation – that belongs to the sentence – be tucked into the quotation?  By my thinking, that makes absolutely no sense!  And, it just looks stupid.  But, those are the rules.  Just an English thing?  Do other languages handle this more logically?  Elect me Potentate of Punctuation and I’ll make that my very first order of change!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR  🙂
