(Not bad at all!  I was very happy to finally see a clue/question that wasn’t one of the fill-in-the-blank/continuation/. . . ones!  I think the guys broke some kind of record there!  There were no new clue words today, but they were all jumbled well.  I had to think a bit on both “unpaid” and “midday”.  The answer letter layout was splendiferous!  Nothing given away there.  Nice little pun, and a nice cartoon.  After yesterday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade I’m really sensitive to – and pretty sick of – all this commercialism!  Can’t this country do anything anymore without having to mention some kind of corporate sponsor?!?!  Yeesh!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(It probably shouldn’t . . . but it usually does!  Our memories are short, and the prevailing attitude seems to be:  What have you done for me, lately?    The French actually ARE still grateful, for the U.S. liberating them in WWII, but so many in the U.S. forget what they did for us during the American Revolution.  To me, this cryptoquote is a day late, and a dollar short!  I also think I might have to agree with Art on this one.  I tried Banning, Fanning and Manning, before resorting to doing a search on the quotation itself!  Canning???  What kind of name is that?!?!  The dude was fairly quotable, but I’ve never heard of him before.  I guess you’d have to be a Brit!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
