From the Thought for Today:

We want the facts to fit the preconceptions.  When they don’t fit it is easier to ignore the facts than to change the preconceptions.”   —   Jessamyn West

(A little ironic that she died in 1984.  Not ironic that she was an American Quaker.  I wonder what she would make of the world today???  Be well, do good, and keep asking questions, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Perhaps this quote has been mis-attributed.  There is also a living Jessamyn West, who designed the above sign!  Hmm!      YUR

(I really like the mock Warhol on the wall!  I always preferred Alphabet soup to Tomato soup, anyway!  Is today Jeff and Kathy’s anniversary, or something?  If so, then congratulations!

I only had difficulty with one clue word, today, and it happened to be “laptop”!  I think I will always struggle, some, with compound words.  It’s just who yer uncle is!  Merriam Webster‘s has the word as first being used in 1984, but I don’t see when they first acknowledged it as such.  It is not currently in the ralis95 clue word database, so it’s a brand new word, as far as Jumble clue words go!  ralis95 loves adding new words to his database!

The answer letter layout was really great, today.  Nothing given away.  I can see some of you struggling to get today’s answer.  It wasn’t killer, but it’s a clever pun.  I wonder if Elegante’s serves a burger???  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  I would have given you a picture of Warhol’s Tomato Soup, but it’s copyrighted.  Fortunately, the Marilyn Monroe one is of a legal(?) knockoff!  Don’t know how the Aphrodite came up, but I never pass up the opportunity to post a lovely tush!      YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 09/18/12

zen

The only Zen you can find on the tops of mountains is the Zen you bring up there.”   —   Robert M. Pirsig

(This was a deceptively tricky cryptoquote!  It starts out easy enough, but then I got a little hung up.  Then, I thought I had it right, with the third and fourteenth word being MEN, but then I couldn’t complete MOUNTAINS.  I thought MOUNTAINS could possibly be FOUNTAINS, but then FIND and OF would have been wrong.  I knew MEN didn’t fit with IS, but you can’t always count on good grammar with quotations.  I thought, for a second, that possibly there was some kind of typo, here, but I didn’t want to give in to that notion.  Finally, I decided MOUNTAINS was correct and I needed something else for MEN.  I went through the entire alphabet – and surprisingly, this quote uses 20 out of 26 letters – until I hit upon ZEN!  The funny thing is I actually read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, probably 30, or so, years ago.  Who knows if I even grasped its meaning, back then?!  Today I’d say, there’s nothing wrong with making a searchful type of journey, but ultimately what you are seeking lies within, and you are really on a journey of self-awareness.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
