Visual Description: The irrational optimist teeing up at the Green Monster.
VOHES = SHOVE, KLNIB = BLINK, HUTHOG = THOUGH, NONANC = CANNON — Giving us: SHLNTOGO
Clue/Question: Trying to reach the green with his drive was this.
Answer: A LONG SHOT
(Maybe. Just maybe, if you weren’t – somehow – able to get some idea of the distance of this hole, then this might not have been one of the more obvious answers in a long, long time. But, hey! Dem’s da breaks! No new clue words today, but they were all jumbled really well. The answer letter layout was also a great jumble. The slightly exaggerated cartoon is full of some fun details, like the curled up divot, the binoculars and the silly club covers. I’ve never played a 595 yard Par 5 before. I have played a 570 yarder, but from the white tees it’s more like 545. I’ve caddied a 594 yard Par 5, but I never caddied for anyone who parred the hole. It’s a beast, and too much for your average duffer. I haven’t played real golf in nearly 40 years. Putt-putt with the kids, who are now grown, and a few buckets at a rural driving range, every few years or so. It’s not a poor man’s game, and there’s a big time commitment to playing golf. With the right frame of mind it’s an enjoyable activity. With the wrong frame of mind, like Mark Twain said, it’s: “a good walk spoiled.” Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
