(What happened to that great cartoon of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings you were supposed to give us?!!!  Censors turned you down, huh?  It looks like I’m going to have to provide my own cheap thrills.  LOL!  Oh, well.  A return to the traditional, with our heroes taking part in the action, is always a welcome sight.  Not as welcome as Women’s Beach Volleyball, mind you, but still . . . a welcome sight.  This felt a little like a re-run, but I guess that’s just because the word draw is so versatile.  All the clue words were well jumbled, today.  We have a new addition to the ralis95 clue word database, in the word “uncork”  I would have uncorked that word a long time ago!  The answer letter layout was masterful!  The answer itself wasn’t too tough, but it made for a nice pun.  Was that it for the Olympic-themed jumbles?  I was actually expecting a few more.  Not even a closing ceremony?  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

English: Original title: “The Gambrel-roofed House” Original caption: “Dr. Holmes’s birthplace in Cambridge. Built in 1730; torn down after the death of the Doctor’s mother inn 1862. It was General Ward’s headquarters in the Revolution, and General Warren slept there before the Battle of Bunker Hill.” (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

(In my mind a necessity is greater/more important than a duty, so I don’t quite get Ollie’s use of the word only.  Sure, a duty is an obligation, but there’s still a level of choice involved in carrying out a duty, but a necessity is . . . a necessity!  Certainly, there are consequences to ignoring a duty, but ignoring a necessity – like eating or breathing – leads to a fairly rapid demise.  You wouldn’t think that someone like Oliver Wendell Holmes would use such a snarky tone, to emphasize the point.  To my way of thinking, the quote should be:  Historic continuity with the past is not only a duty, it is a necessity.  Regardless, this quote did make for a challenging cryptoquote.  It would have been a far greater challenge had they made the author less obvious.  Making it O.W. Holmes, or even Oliver W. Holmes, would have made decoding this that much harder.  As it was, the author name was like a key to solving this.  I wish the Cryptoquote people – Rebecca Kornbluh? – would read this blog and wise up!  They need to listen to their uncle!  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
