Visual Description: Jeff Knurek’s Father’s Day picnic!
FITCEN = INFECT, RUSEEF = REFUSE, WHAYNO = ANYHOW, RACLIG = GARLIC, FIXLUN = INFLUX, DSOYHD = SHODDY — Giving us: FETREAGRIFUSH
Clue/Question: When they counted the number of dads at the cookout, they ended up with . . .
Answer: FATHER FIGURES
(A nice send up to Father’s Day! All the clue words were well jumbled. I really liked “infect”, “garlic” and “influx” . . . and “refuse” and “shoddy”. Only WHAYNO came across as a jumbled word I’d already seen. The answer letter layout was very cryptic, as it should be. From the cartoon, and today’s date, you just knew the word FATHER was going to be part of it. The counting helped getting the FIGURES. Fun cartoon. It looks like one mom is losing a burger, while another one grills . . . a rabbit??? Umm, maybe that’s flames. Oh my God! She’s burning the burgers!!! Jeff looks like one proud and happy papa, with his two kids. Be well and do good, friends. Enjoy your dads, while they’re still here.) — YUR

Hey Unc- I got ANYWHO for WHAYNO, not ANYHOW, looked up on dictionary.com, and its a word from 1935-1950 as a “humorous alteration”. Am I cheating or do I get a pass- Wimpy
I say you get a pass, Wimpy! I remember my Mom saying anywho, from time to time. It must’ve come from some comedian of the time. All you needed was the A anyway. But, ultimately, it’s Hoyt’s call, as far as the letters making up a single common word. If he rules that anywho is also a word then he’ll have to take anyhow out of circulation.

Thank You Unc, Enjoy the rest of your Fathers day.. Wimpy
I FINALLY finished this puzzle on Thursday! ANYHOW took 3 days! I tried to figure it out all over my house. First, I sat outside. Too hot! Then I sat inside. Too distracted. Then I tried just walking around thinking about it. I’m glad I checked your site here because I thought the solution was FIGURE FATHERS. My mind gave up I guess. GREAT cartoon, though, and happy belated Fathers’ Day to you all.
