GREEM = MERGE, SAUEM = AMUSE, CIDOIY = IDIOCY, CEEADD = DECADE — Giving us: MRMDYEAE
Clue/Question: When his sweet potato was undercooked, he did this.
Answer: YAMMERED
(I like it . . . a lot! You don’t hear the word yammer all that much these days. Growing up, I’d hear it from both my mother and father. What’s he yammering about, now? Or: Ah, quit your yammering! It’s a great word to describe someone’s complaining and/or whining. It’s a great old Anglo Saxon word. It’s from old Middle English and Middle Dutch, with a strong link to the German word: jammer, which means lamentation. And, of course, it’s a fun play on the other word for sweet potatoes, which is yams! I like yams, as kind of a change of pace. I probably eat them only two or three times of year, with Thanksgiving being the big day in our house for them.
I also liked today’s clue word jumbling, especially the middle words, “amuse” and “idiocy”. I actually had to think for a few seconds on “amuse”. And, Mr. Hoyt is continuing to keep ralis95 busy with his clue word database, as “idiocy” should be a new entry. The answer letter layout should have kept a number of you guessing, especially if you are not familiar with yammer. The cartoon gets the point across, but mainly with all the complainer’s verbal barrage. I thought his expression was a little understated. But, that’s just me, folks. Be well and do good. This concludes my daily yammering.) — YUR

YUR- I got all the words no problem but the final answer, I was YAMMERING. I had to cheat, hit the hint button on computer version 4 times, I haven’t had to cheat in a long time. I guess i was JUMBLED…. Wimpy
Anything that has to do with sweet potatoes or yams is fine with me! I love them. AMUSE gave me some difficulty, but the rest came quickly.
