Decorate your home.  It gives the illusion that your life is more interesting than it really is.”   —   Charles M. Schulz

(I think I’d rather have the more interesting life, than the well appointed home.  I say Screw the Joneses!  They’re all a bunch of boring schmucks, anyway.  Be well and do good friends.)   —   YUR  😉

Jumble Spoiler – 04/16/12

Tax (Photo credit: 401K)

Visual Description:  Nature tramper, facing one of Ben Franklin’s certainties.

Clue/Question:  When the state park levied a usage fee for its trails, he faced a . . .

Answer:  TAX HIKE

(Not bad, for a Monday morning!  None of the clue words were new, but all were jumbled well.  I always have a hard time spelling “khaki”.  I’m never quite sure where the H goes.  I have the same problem trying to spell Afghanistan and the name Ghandi . . . I mean Gandhi.  What the H is the use of those Hs anyway?!?!  Answer letter layout was fine.  Not much you can do to hide two small words.  Great cartoon.  It dances nicely around the word “tax”, by calling it an “Entrance Fee”, a “Usage Fee” and a “Trail Surcharge”.  If you think this is bad, just be thankful that you don’t live in the 12 county MTA region of New York City.  The MTA – Metropolitan Transit Authority – tacks on a $50 annual fee to your vehicle registration.  For many cars that is more than the registration itself.  They’re also responsible for a $16 increase on driver’s license renewals, and a separate 5% tax on car rentals.  You even find MTA fees in your utility bills, at the gas pump, and they’re even one of our payroll taxes!  One might argue that it’s all well and good for those who ride the NYC subways and buses, but many of the people who live in these counties rarely – some never – venture into New York City, let alone use the buses or subways.  Furthermore, the MTA has raised its tolls FIVE times in the last seven years.  I need to apply for a friggin’ bank loan every time I want to use the George Washington Bridge, or the Lincoln or Holland Tunnels!  We’re all paying for the years and years of MTA mismanagement, and some counties are so fed up they’re threatening to secede from the MTA.  Aaahh!  Life near the big city.  Be well and do good friends.  And, stay away from New York City . . . unless your name is Gates, or Walton, or Zuckerberg, or Bezos, or Rockefeller, or Bloomberg, or you’re related to the Koch brothers!)   —   YUR  😉
