Cryptoquote Spoiler – 04/13/12

Publicity photo of John Wayne and Lucille Ball...

Publicity photo of John Wayne and Lucille Ball from the television program I Love Lucy. In this episode, the Ricardos and Mertzes are visiting Los Angeles and visit Grauman's Chinese Theater, where Lucy decides to take John Wayne's footprints as a souvenir. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.”   —   Lucille Ball

(I think the “live honestly” kind of precluded her from adding: dye your hair!  Who doesn’t love Lucy?!?!  She seems to appeal to all generations.  She could also be very sexy, glamorous and dramatic.  Lucy is a classic, and a true American icon!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Friday the 13th Jumble Spoiler – April, 2012

I took this picture of Lilith, a black cat fou...

I took this picture of Lilith, a black cat found as a kitten in a supermarket parking lot. Feel free to share this image, but leave "Lilith" in the file name, please! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Visual Description:  Even though we’ve codified it and ritualized it, superstition still thrives as . . . superstition.

ODORP  =  DROOP,  ONNKW  =  KNOWN,  YULDOC  =  CLOUDY,  KUENTJ  =  JUNKET   —   Giving us:  DOOKOWNCODNKE

Clue/Question:  When he talked about his new furniture business, he did this.

Answer:  KNOCKED ON WOOD

(I sure hope none of my readers suffer from Triskaidekaphobia, because you . . . Hey, look!  It’s a black cat!  Just kidding.  I think it’s hilarious that so many people are still so superstitious.  A cat’s a cat.  A crack in the sidewalk is just a crack.  And, a broken mirror is just dangerous garbage.  Be careful cleaning it up, but throw it out and move on with your life.  Four leaf clovers?  Yeah, fairly rare . . . but that’s about it.  Lucky pennies?  They kind of come in handy, when you pay for things . . . especially things that carry sales tax.  But, what can you buy with a single penny these days?  I’m sure most of you know the old line/gag about the “lucky” rabbit’s foot.  It wasn’t very lucky for the rabbit!  But, fearing numbers???  You’ve got to be kidding me!  There are just so many superstitions out there, but when you dissect and examine them, they all break down into nonsense.  The only ones I can think of that have any practical application are:  walking under a ladder – it can be a safety issue, and three on a match – but only if you’re in a shooting war.  Luck, good or bad, is merely happenstance.  Things won’t make good things happen, or prevent bad things from happening.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for me to tend to my Jade plant.

13 letters in today’s answer!  I don’t think that was by accident.  However, there were no new clue words today.  None of them presented a challenge to me, but they were jumbled nicely.  The answer letter layout gave nothing away . . . again, which is always a good thing.  The furniture maker looks a little like someone, but not enough to say with confidence.  I ‘spose Jeff will say something if it is a someone.  Be well and do good friends.  Hopefully, it will come back to you.)   —   YUR
