TIXSH = SIXTH, HALSS = SLASH, NUISOF = FUSION, DAYTRF = DRAFTY — Giving us: TAUORF
Clue/Question: When they announced the discovery of Pluto on 3-13-1930, people thought it was this.
Answer: FAR OUT
(I think they were pretty much still saying things like: Gee Willikers! and That’s the Bees’ Knees! back in those days. WAY before my time. Of course, Pluto is pretty Far Out there, but unfortunately it lost it’s planet status back in 2006. Now it’s referred to as a ‘dwarf planet‘, or a ‘trans-neptunian object‘. Big story . . . then, but I think most of us have gotten over it. I’m sure it was a much bigger story back in 1930, as a scientific discovery. Maybe they could/should do something similar with The Pledge of Allegiance??? Ooh! Keep those cards and letters coming!
The Jumble itself was just OK. The clue words were jumbled nicely, but weren’t a huge challenge. Add “drafty” to the ralis95 database. The answer letter layout was as good as it gets, for a six letter answer. Cute, old-timey cartoon, with the bonus clue being the one scientist pointing to just how far out Pluto’s orbit really is. That’s about it, friends. Be well, do good . . . and don’t let people in positions of authority tell you what/how to think. We were given the gift of cognizance for a reason. Ceding it to others is just plain laziness, and a waste of great potential.) — YUR
