Happiness has a bad rap.  People say it shouldn’t be your goal in life.  Oh, yes it should.”   —   Richard Dreyfuss

(This guy is one of my all-time favorite actors!  He’s been in so many great movies, and I guess he’s also done a lot of television, over the years.  He used to remind me, a lot, of a director and theater professor that I had back in college.  The guy’s name was Jan Ijams.  I wonder whatever became of that guy?  For you Western fans out there, you might be interested to know that they’ve shot a movie based on the later 1960s television show, The Big Valley!  It’s currently in post-production.  It looks like it’s got a great cast, but I can’t find anything on a release date.  Richard Dreyfuss is in it, and also appeared in an episode of the television series, way back in 1967!  Talk about coming full circle!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 02/18/12

Visual Description:  Big guy getting defensive about his protection and hole-opening efforts.

SODTO  =  STOOD,  UDLAT  =  ADULT,  PCNAUK  =  UNPACK,  GBINNE  =  BENIGN   —   Giving us:  TOODLTUCKBEI

Clue/Question:  The offensive lineman didn’t want to remember the team’s loss, so he did this.

Answer:  BLOCKED IT OUT

(I thought this was a great Jumble!  Kind of a shame to waste it on a Saturday.  Especially for me!  Not as many people seem to tune in on the weekends.  Everybody’s got other/better things to do than surf the web for answers to newspaper word games.  Even yours truly!  No matter.  All the clue word jumbling was top shelf!  Believe it or not, “stood” is a new addition to the ralis95 clue word database.  It’s not new, but I’m betting that the word that may have tripped up the most people is “benign”.  The answer letter layout was a thing of beauty.  Nothing obvious there.  Good job, Mr. Hoyt!  You’d have to know – at least –  the basics of American Football to get today’s answer.  The offensive linemen – the Center, flanked by two Guards, flanked by two Tackles – are familiarly known as BLOCKERS, because one of their main jobs is to stop the the opposing defense from getting across the line of scrimmage, and getting to the quarterback . . . or whoever might have the ball.  A lot of American readers are just saying “Duh!” to all of this, but a lot of our visitors are from countries that do not play American Football.  Nice cartoon, Mr. Knurek.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
