Jumble Spoiler – 01/17/12

English: I smoke it first for about 7 minutes ...

Visual Description:  A sophisticated diner at a nice restaurant.

Clue/Question:  After tasting his perfectly cooked, medium-rare steak, the customer said this.

Answer:  WELL DONE

(Simple, yet effective!  Besides being a new word, I had a little difficulty in getting “spoil”.  I think I generally tend towards splitting up the vowels, and that obviously doesn’t work in this case.  It’s not new, but I also was a little slow getting “tanned”.  Hey, look!  Art imitating real life!  The sun and my skin do NOT get along very well.  I also am not a fan of past tense verbs as clue words, so it takes a little longer for my brain to go there.  The other two clue words jumped off the page, for me.  Everything was jumbled very well, and the answer letter layout wasn’t obvious at all.  I love the exclamation:  Well done!  I always imagine an older British lady, or gentleman, saying it.  Well done, sirrah!  As for the steak?  I prefer mine medium-rare.  Sometimes even really rare!  Bloody hell, you say?  The waiter looks sufficiently snooty.  Is the diner supposed to be anyone Jeff knows, or just a guy?  He looks like he could be a known someone.  That’s about it, guys.  Be well, do good . . . and tip generously, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  I know, for some, the above steak is more rare, than medium-rare. (You well done eaters.)  But, for the blood thirsty animals, like me, it’s medium-rare.   —   YUR

Got up late this morning and still half asleep when I tackled the JUMBLE. As you say, two words jumped off the page, while SPOIL was new to both our printouts. The problem I had with the remaining word was that I wrote down the sequence of letters incorrectly, resulting in the incorrect ATTEND instead of the correct TANNED. Note though, that the EN still prevails in the right positions to solve the puzzle. Was I surprised to see your correct word! Sent me scrambling. In the process I found that SPOIL had been added, somehow, to the database since the last printout, but when and why are open to question.(As you know, I don’t usually add words that I haven’t seen in an actual puzzle.)

As for an update to the database, I was going to do one in February, but if you really need it now, I’ll send it off today or tomorrow.

No rush, brother. As long as I’m kept in the loop!

SPOIL took me awhile to get! I kept thinking SLIPO or LIPSO. I finally wrote it out and success! As for steak, I like mine medium-rare (picture is too rare) with a baked potato with butter and sour cream. I cannot really understand the whole vegan/vegetarian thing which I researched yesterday for the heck of it. I simply cannot stand restrictive things: clothing, diets, and where I can travel!

I can understand it, but I cannot – and will not – deny my animal instincts!
    Do you travel naked, Lesley???
