Clue/Question: They were able to steal the painting when the night watchman was . . .
Answer: CAUGHT OFF–GUARD
(This guy doesn’t seem very persistent! Or, maybe he just forgot what he’s supposed to be doing. Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” is probably the most recognized work of Surrealistic art in the world. It was painted in 1931, and has resided at the MoMa since 1934. In 1954 Dali painted a variation of this and titled it “The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory”. It kind of breaks down the original work into numerous segments. This resides at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, FL. They’re both fascinating works, and they demonstrate Dali’s quirky genius.
I think the only clue word that I hesitated on was “outage”. It, along with “driver” and “forged” are new to the ralis95 clue word database. All the words were well jumbled, and the answer letter layout would have made it difficult to back in to any of the clue words. Of course the cartoon is great. This is one extremely well constructed Jumble. The guys deserve kudos . . . for this masterpiece! Be well, do good . . . and get yourself some class, friends. Go visit an art museum. It will broaden your horizons.) — YUR

For a Sunday Jumble I was surprised how quickly I zipped through all the clue words. Then…a BIG problem occurred! I ended up with 15 letters circled, and only 14 blanks to fill them. I counted over and over! Finally, I came to this website for the answer, and the W in YELLOW should not have been circled! Was this only my newspaper that circled the extra letter? Did I make some kind of mistake?
My newspaper copy in Binghamton NY has an extra letter circled: the W in YELLOW. The St. Louis paper doesn’t have this mistake. ?!?!?!
I feel sorry for all who’s newspapers had the extra circled letter. (The “W” in YELLOW.) It looks like Jeff and David have another quality control issue to deal with.
Fortunately, my newspaper seems to be on the ball. Never a problem with the Jumble! But, one time they left the author off of the Cryptoquote. I solved it anyway. And, maybe there was a problem with one word in today’s cryptoquote. (The second “TO” s/b “OF”, according to one anonymous poster.)

Sunday Daily News in Northern New Jersey does NOT have the W in yellow circled. It is correct.
Something like this happened a couple of months ago. The problem originated with our guys, but revisions went out to all the papers in time to avoid the goof. Some papers just didn’t act on the revision.

Our editor messed up. She sent out a correction in plenty of time for newspapers to fix it. Maybe a few newspapers weren’t paying attention because the fix went out around the beginning of the holidays. No clue. Jeff and I didn’t even know there was a problem until we started getting comments. Thankfully it was correct in most newspapers. I’m so sorry to hear that some people had to deal with that. This mistake was totally out of our control.
