Angry judges and steadfast court reporter

Visual Description:  An adjudicator and his court reporter, keeping count of his decisions.

COKBL  =  BLOCK,  NCRAH  =  RANCH,  RANLEY  =  NEARLY,  DIOWSM  =  WISDOM   —   Giving us:  BCKRAHNEM

Clue/Question:  Presiding over 100 trials was this for the judge.

Answer:  A BENCHMARK

(No new clue words today!  Stand down, ralis95.  But, the clue word jumbling and the answer letter layout were very good.  I nearly had to back into “nearly”.  And that might have been difficult, considering that the answer would have been hard to solve without the NE.  A fairly challenging Jumble, especially for a Monday!  Be well, do good . . . and use your best judgment, friends.)   —   YUR

I cheated a little because of impatience and saw the BE for BENCHMARK to get the answer! NEARLY took a few tries, but I got it once I thought about the LY ending. Many thoughts of Martin Luther King Jr. today…imagine if he had lived longer…

    Lesley,

I know you’re putting it out there rhetorically, but: a lot of urban rioting and deaths *could* have been avoided, and the war in Vietnam *may* have ended earlier. Would things have been better between the races? It’s hard to say. I don’t know if his Gandhi-like approach would/could have worked in the U.S. He was up against so much narrow-minded hatred, and even J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI were trying to bring/take him down. One *might* argue that his death was THE single catalyst for the change that this country dearly needed. I think the idea of *needing* to have some kind of martyr is very sad, but sometimes that just seems to be the reality. Shock and revulsion are very powerful change agents.

Yes, YUR, the “what if” of anything is surely something to ponder…
