New Year’s Day Cryptoquote Spoiler – 2012

Portrait of Harry Goldie in his boxing trunksOne merit of poetry – it says more, and in fewer words, than prose.”   —   Voltaire

(This feels like a re-run to me!  Doesn’t it seem familiar?  I think our new friend, Harry Calhoun, can appreciate today’s quote.  He’s a real life poet!  Happy New Year, friends!  Be well and do good, people.)   —   YUR

Leaky Roof

Visual Description:  Plip, plip, plip . . . and puddles in the pews!

SWARLP  =  SPRAWL,  CAUKNP  =  UNPACK,  CEODIV  =  VOICED,  PABTEU  =  UPBEAT,  KOECST  =  SOCKET,  SCAIOF  =  FIASCO   —   Giving us:  SRUCVIETOEFO

Clue/Question:  The church with the plumbing problems was this.

Answer:  OUT OF SERVICE

(Some nice challenge for the new year!  I had trouble with “voiced”, “upbeat” and “fiasco”.  I had to back into both “voiced” and “fiasco”.  I caught myself on “upbeat”, having first written down beatup!  Only “voiced” is new to the ralis95 database, and I know a lot of purists take issue with some of these past tense verbs being used as legitimate words, it’s a little on the cheap side, but it’s just something we need to get over.  I really liked the jumbling on “fiasco”!  The answer letter layout beautiful!  Happy New Year to all the puzzle fans out there!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
