All the mistakes I ever made were when I wanted to say “No” and said “Yes”.”   —   Moss Hart

Moses rescued from the Nile (detail) by Nicola...

(Very easy cryptoquote to solve.  Kind of an inglorious introduction to Mr. Hart, in my opinion.  I now understand the old English connotation of Moss – it’s a derivation of Moses/drawn from the water – but I can’t see myself giving that kind of name to a kid.  It would be like naming your kid:  Mold, Fungi, Lichen, Alga or Mildew.  Why name your kid after one of the most basic forms of plant life?  Could be worse, I suppose.  I remember a – supposedly true – story of a pregnant woman being gurneyed towards the delivery room of a hospital.  She hadn’t yet decided on a name for her impending baby girl, and she overheard a doctor and nurse talking about chlamydia, and said:  Oh!  That sounds like a beautiful name!  I do hope that somebody ‘splained things to her!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(I’m wondering if we’re supposed to recognize today’s characters?  The cartoon just seems to have an air of specificity to it.  Friends?  Family members?  C’mon, Jeff.  Give it up!  I didn’t have any trouble with any of the clue words, although they were all jumbled nicely.  Great answer letter layout.  Other than signing our names to various documents, very few of us use cursive these days.  In this age of instant communication we “type” out just about everything.  Whether it’s on some kind of computer, a cell phone, or some other hand held device, we are all generating messages that show up as print.  I used quotations marks on type because – technically – I don’t really type.  I peck away with two – and sometimes as many as four – fingers.  I took typing, in high school.  But, partially because of chauvinistic reasons, and partially because of non-conformist reasons, I just never took it seriously enough.  I know where the fingers go.  And, I do – sorta – know how each finger is supposed to reach the various keys, but I don’t trust myself with the no-look touch system.  That’s why the ol’ hunt & peck system is what yer ol’ uncle employs.  Not really the most efficient way to go about things, but that’s just me.  Okie dokes?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
