“It is an ironic habit of human beings to run faster when we have lost our way.” — Rollo May
(Our first quotation from the noted existential psychologist. And, I do hope there are more to come. It seems to me that our country – our society – is running at break-neck speed. I blame it on a – strangely? – related combination of technology and abject greed. What about you guys? Thoughts on the quote? On my brief commentary? Peace.) — YUR

Greed is such a simple word with such overwhelming implications. Unfortunately, it has become a way of life all over the western world, if not the whole world, itself. There is no easy answer to the situation, though; for to stop it, would mean the end of our economic structure upon which the greed flourishes.

. . . and, at this point THAT may not be such a bad idea. I think the OWS movement is just the beginning of bigger things to come. For better, or worse. For the few, and for the many. Like the problems of global warming, if we haven’t yet reached the tipping point I think we are pretty darn close. It’s a little ironic how both these issues are related/driven by greed.

I agree. America herself is built upon greed, if you think back to our history that is…At first, we wanted a place to practice our own religion without being persecuted. Then, we wanted more land and then MORE…until we took over more than half of the North American continent (while pushing aside a few peoples along the way)!!
So, understanding this, is it really possible for Americans to change THAT much? Call me pessimistic, but I don’t think we can do a complete turn-around, though I do hope the younger generation will learn from our mistakes (even though from all that I’ve seen~based on the new faces around college and around the Internet~is that it’s getting much worse unfortunately…)
