Visual Description : A guy I’d never play poker with. (Or: A guy with whom I’d never play poker.)
THAPC = PATCH, NEYDE = NEEDY, SOLISF = FOSSIL, ORRWUB = BURROW — Giving us: ATEEFSB
Clue/Question: He thought locking up his poker winnings was this.
Answer: A SAFE BET
(I can’t put my finger on it, but this feels like a re-run to me. Even the painting of Dogs Playing Poker – which I believe hangs in the Louvre – seems very familiar. None of the clue words seemed new, although they were well-jumbled. The answer letter layout was fine. Not exactly the biggest challenge. I think our buddies went beyond a safe bet, and went with a sure thing. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

I do wish my paper printed a larger version of the daily puzzle. I couldn’t make out the dogs playing poker at all – but it wouldn’t have made any difference to figuring out the answer, which could be solved pretty much by just looking at the number of letter spaces and the cartoon. BURROW is new.
