Win as if you were used to it; lose as if you enjoyed it for a change.”   —   Ralph Waldo Emerson

(Alongside of “Just Win, Baby!” and “Winning Isn’t Everything; It’s the Only Thing”, and Touchdown Jesus, etc.,  this quotation should be posted in every locker room in the country.  And, every school should be teaching this quote to our kids.  I’m tired of seeing these clowns celebrating every little play – even when they’re clearly losing the game –  as if they just won the friggin’ Super Bowl.  Have a little class, guys.  Or, at the very least, use better timing and common sense.  Geez, Louise.)   —   YUR

(Storm Delayed) Jumble Spoiler – 10/29/11

Visual Description:  A quest from The Knights Who Say Ni!

YHERM  =  RHYME,  DEERL  =  ELDER,  ALOHMO  =  MOOLAH,  GUINGR  =  URGING   —   Giving us:  HEEDOHGG

Clue/Question:  The sale at the nursery turned the customer into a . . .

Answer:  HEDGE HOG

(Dinsdale?!  Dinsdale!!  I loved this one!  Great clue words and great jumbling.  The answer letter layout should have been better, though!  Just switching the order of the first set of words would have given us:  EDHEOHGG, and both sets of words would have given us:  EDHEGGOH.  Eh!  Not so big a difference, I guess.  It made me think of a few of my favorite Monty Python sketches.  I’ll try to provide some links.

I feel like I just got stomped on!  We just got power back about an hour ago!  We just had the freakiest and most devastating storm EVER, for my area!  10 inches of wet, heavy snow on trees where the sap hadn’t even run yet.  Major branches down, all over the place.  Our local power company said between 75,000 to 100,000 homes were without power!  We’ve never had the power out for more than 4 – 5 hours, but we were without for about 22 hours.  I’m sure that other areas around me are still without.  No power meant no heat, and it dipped below 30 last night.  We were in bed by about 7:30 – 8:00, because there was nothing we could do, and it was so cold!  I lost some pretty major branches, including a major chunk of a silver maple that split and fell against my roof.  It was buffered by an overgrown cedar bush/tree, and I’m just hoping it didn’t damage my gutter.  My back is killing me from shoveling.  I went through two coats, two pair of boots and pants, and three pairs of socks and gloves, because it was so wet!  And believe me, guys.  I ain’t getting any younger.  The snow will melt in a few days, but my God, it isn’t even November yet!  The clean up of the tree damage is going to be a major pain.  I sure as hell don’t have the scratch to pay someone to come in and do it for me, and I don’t know if I have the energy to tackle it myself.  Other than the power being back, I am not a happy camper right now.)   —   YUR
