“Every time you win, you’re reborn; when you lose, you die a little.” — George Allen, Sr.
(When I was still a kid, searching for my own football identity, I was a big Redskins fan! I loved George Allen’s Over-the Hill Gang! Billy Kilmer, Sonny Jurgensen, Chris Hanburger, Charley Taylor, Paul Krause, Myron Pottios, Ron McDole, Richie Petitbon and Co. George preferred experienced veterans to the youngsters right out of college. They had winning seasons with that strategy, but fell short of winning the Super Bowl. Those were the good old days! If you get a chance, check out Google today. Their masthead is a tribute to Art Clokey’s – Gumby’s creator – 90th birthday. When you click on the block “G”, or any of the balls of clay, you get some semi-classic claymation! Of course the “classic” claymation wasn’t computer generated. Gumby and Pokey were cartoon standards when I was growing up, as was Davey and Goliath, another favorite. There was a religious message, but they weren’t heavy-handed about it. Check it out. These tributes are usually one day only things. Peace.) — YUR
