Cryptoquote Spoiler – 10/07/11

Stagg Lefty Tele

Most of us would rather risk a catastrophe than read the instructions.”   —   Mignon McLaughlin

(I don’t like to read ’em, but I generally do anyway.  I’m not a total klutz, but I’m also not a super handyman.  I still have to tell myself:  Righty tighty, Lefty loosey.  Once or twice, a bunch of years ago, I tried to put a couple of things together without reading the instructions, and I ended up doing some things in the wrong order.  This almost always involves undoing what’s been done, so you can – correctly – complete the assembly.  Also, I can think of a few occasions where I over-tightened the bolts, nuts and/or screws, when the instructions – if I’d bothered to read them – specifically tell you NOT to do this.  REALLY not fun when you’ve also done something WAY out of order.  So, I’ve kind of learned my lesson . . . the hard way.  I guess this is just the trade off for being intelligent . . . and incredibly handsome, of course!  Read the stupid instructions.  For most of us, we’re really better off in doing so.  Peace out, pilgrims.)   —   YUR

The Liberty Bell hangs in the Liberty Bell Cen...

Visual Description:  Independence Hall and it’s onetime tower resident.

KPLAO  =  POLKA,  XNENA  =  ANNEX,  LGPTIE  =  PIGLET,  BOBARS  =  ABSORB   —   Giving us:  LANEGLARB

Clue/Question:  His explanation of how the famous crack formed did this.

Answer:  RANG A BELL

(O.K.  First things first.  I am giving myself a nice pat on the back!  Hey, blogs are all about vanity anyway.  I solved the clue words and wrote out the answer letters, as I always do.  I saw that the answer was a four-one-four deal, glanced at the cartoon, and without reading a single word of dialog or the clue/question  . . . I got the answer.  Someone call Mensa, quick!  LOL!  Yeah, right.  The cartoon is only slightly dominated by a monstrous Liberty BELL.  And, the answer letters really could have been laid out better.  Not that there was anything super obvious, but I saw an ANG as things were laid out.  There would have been a little more challenge, to the answer letters, had the first two clue words been reversed.  NELAGLARB, or even NELAARBGL would have made it slightly tougher.  But, only slightly.  The answer was going to be fairly obvious, any way you look at it.  I loved the scrambling of the clue words though.  I really had to think some on both “polka” and “piglet”.  I saw “annex” and “absorb” right away.  The first letters of the four clue words spell PAPA.  Any significance to this, David?  Your dad’s birthday, maybe?  Or, just a coincidence?  Maybe this is a sign that Philly is going to prevail tonight over the Cards.  They ARE still the favorite, and I don’t know if the “genius” – Tony Larussa – can pull off another  big upset.  The away teams have been pretty lucky this post season!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
