If you put a baseball and other toys in front of a baby, he’ll pick up a baseball in preference to the others.”   —   Tris Speaker

Scrambled eggs

Visual Description:  Lennon & McCartney, circa 1965!

FIRDT  =  DRIFT,  ESRSD  =  DRESS,  AAXLYG  =  GALAXY,  YTESSM  =  SYSTEM   —   Giving us:  DRESAYYTE

Clue/Question:  Paul didn’t want to put off finishing this until tomorrow.

Answer:  YESTERDAY

(I’m really glad Jeff gave John hairy legs!  Otherwise, I might’ve thought that was Paul’s Mum, don’t ya know!  Just kidding.  Great cartoon!  Clue words were pretty easy, but everything was well scrambled, and the answer letter layout gave nothing away.  I think, by now, most people have heard the story of how the working title of Yesterday was originally Scrambled Eggs.  Obviously, prior to any serious lyrics!  Not sure if this was actually Paul’s original inspiration for it, or just Jeff’s vivid imagination.  It looks like a whole slew of you had trouble getting Saturday’s, and a pretty good number for Sunday’s as well!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The learned understand the reason of the art, the unlearned feel the pleasure.”   —   Quitilian

(That is if they like it!  Otherwise the unlearned both don’t get it and are not pleased!  And, I’m sure the learned can also feel the pleasure.  Otherwise, what would be the point of being learned?  I had some trouble getting this one.  I got the T, E, A and Hs right away, but then I stated questioning myself some.  I strongly suspected ART, but didn’t commit to it for quite a while.  I got distracted by other activities, yesterday, and did get back to finishing this until this AM.  Sorry for the delay.  Stay tuned for the Monday Spoiler!)   —   YUR

GABNIK  =  BAKING,  RROYAM  =  ARMORY,  DLUEGS  =  SLUDGE,  TWOIUT  =  OUTWIT,  RCEYLG  =  CLERGY,  REAACM  =  CAMERA   —   Giving us:  BGAMSLGICEGAA

Clue/Question:  The dispute at the airport resulted in . . .

Answer:  BAGGAGE CLAIMS

(Not bad!  I knew as I was writing out the first three clue words’ answer letters that it was going to be either luggage or baggage.  I’m guessing that “sludge” and “outwit” were likely the toughest of the clue words, for most of you.  But, everybody is a little different.  I had this done early Sunday, but due to a house guest, football, and a certain amount of (celebratory) drinking, I was not able to post this until this morning.  Also, I was a little stuck on the Sunday Cryptoquote, and you know I don’t like to post one without the other, unless I’m completely stumped!  Good thing these answers don’t come out until next Sunday!  Stay tuned for the Monday spoiler!)   —   YUR
