Clue/Question:  The Olympic runner liked to remember the . . .

(How do you measure a competitive runner?  By his times, of course.  I’m glad that the answer was not all that difficult today, because I had to back into getting that last clue word.  For me, “goalie” was scrambled very well.  Even when I figured out that I needed a G, an O and an E it took me a while to come up with the word!  For those of you who had no problem with that word, and didn’t think the answer was obvious, then the answer letter layout probably didn’t make solving this any easier. Much better day, so far, today!  Be well and do good, my friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Happy Birthday to Anne Archer, who turns 64 today(?).  Or, perhaps tomorrow the 25th? (Wikipedia has it tomorrow, but some sources have it as today.)  If it turns out I’m rushing things – and it matters to her – then I apologize for doing so.  The main reason I even bring it up is because my newspaper started to acknowledge her, right after Rock musician Ken Hensley (66), but then left off her last name and age, to jump on to Mike Huckabee. (Not my cup-a-tea!)  She has been in a lot of good movies.  They might pass over her tomorrow, so I decided to follow through – right or wrong – on her behalf.  ‘Cause that’s the kind of guy I am, buckoes!    YUR

“Goalie” was a good one and took me a few minutes to figure out. Lot’s of vowels in that word, which makes it tricky.

thanks for your posts–saves me time when I get stuck! I hope to eventually get good enough to not need the hints.

    @ Keith,
4 out of 6 definitely = Lots! And with Hoyt putting the two consonants right in the middle, it made it tougher to un-scramble! Right?

    @ Paul,
Always a pleasure. Even if you don’t need the hints, keep coming for the confirmation!

I saw the gold metals hanging on the wall and i thought the answer was gold times. Kind of a play on the word good. When that didn’t work out I came to this site. So glad I did, I was pulling my hair out.

So, teresa. You must’ve come up empty on GOALIE! That was a tough word. Lots of people reached Uncle Rave’s Wordy Weblog by doing a search on OIGLEA. Don’t pull your hair out! Very few women can pull off the bald look.

Arghhhhhhh! I was at Island Beach State Park soaking up the beauty of it all before that damn Irene hits, and I just could not get GOALIE! After 2 hours and a long walk, hubby got it! Even backing into it didn’t help me!

I too was pulling my hair out on this one. I originally had put goalie down, but I was sooo sure that the answer was “gold times” that erased it and tried in vain to make a word with e g and l in the circles. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

Sorry if leaving a comment on an old post messed people up. You see I just found this old jumble laying around, so it was new to me. I was just grateful to find the solution, as it really was driving me bonkers.
