Jumble Spoiler – 08/10/11

Play during "Archo" in Chandigarh Co...

Image via Wikipedia

Visual Description:  It is a Jumble, wrapped in a stage show, inside a theater; but perhaps there is a key. (Apologies to Winnie!)

Clue/Question:  The stage performance of Jumble was a . . .

(Wow.  The guys are on the top of their game with this one!  All the clue words were very well scrambled.  The answer letter layout gave nothing away.  And the cartoon is as corny as Heck!  I actually hesitated a bit on “perky”.  I know it’s a real word, but it just kinda sounds like a made up word, to me.  And, the answer is what the Jumble is all about.  Maybe the Jumble will become a huge sensation with the teen/college crowd, and the guys will actually tour the U.S and Canada colleges and universities, with their LIVE show!  Emceed by, none other than . . . Yer Uncle Rave!  And, maybe pigs will learn to fly.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I live for corny, and this puzzle definitely had it! SMOOCH was cute! Cartoon was very “punny.”

I’m happy to see that you liked today’s “corny” Jumble. That’s NY Times Crossword editor Will Shortz in the audience commenting on us by the way. Jeff and I know him. I played table tennis with him a couple of months ago. He is such a nice guy.

    Two questions, David:

    1. Was Will ever friends/co-workers with Eugene T. Maleska?
and 2. When did Will become a Theater Critic?

After we played table tennis I went to Will’s house and he showed me his amazing puzzle collection. During the tour he mentioned Eugene T. Maleska a few times but I can’t remember in what context. I just don’t recall what he said about him. There’s a YouTube video of me playing table tennis with Will if you want to check it out. Just search “Hoyt Shortz” on YouTube and you’ll see it. We played at the table tennis club he owns. He’s a table tennis “master.” He loves it as much as he loves puzzles.

Very interesting, David. Strange pairing . . . Puzzles and Ping-Pong! And, masters at both! Pretty cool. Here’s the new question: Which one of you is more insistent on calling the sport Table Tennis???

Don’t call it Ping Pong around Will!

LOL! I *knew* someone didn’t like it! Just like with the Clue/Question in the Jumble, I always look for the word(s) that you are *oh so carefully* avoiding!
