Clue/Question: After a few days of vacationing at the beach, they were this.
Answer: BURNT OUT
(Boy, can I ever relate to today’s cartoon! It’s one of the reasons why I don’t spend a whole lot of time at the beach. I burn . . . badly. So bad that as a kid my brother used to call me: Tomato! I don’t think sunscreen even existed when I was a kid. And, even since its creation, if you don’t reapply it periodically – especially after going in the water – it’s like you never even put the stuff on. So far, no known melanoma, but I’m just about reaching the age where it could manifest itself. Knock on wood! Or, God forbid!, as my old Joisey Girl coworker/pal use to always say! But, I digress. Very nice scrambling, De La Hoyt. I especially liked “dunce” and “cavort”. Dunce, as in dunce cap, takes me all the way back to the Our Gang or The Little Rascals days, but I guess you still see it on The Simpsons, too! What a terrible way to punish someone . . . for not knowing an answer! Nowadays, I mainly cavort only in my head. But, it’s still a great word. Be well, my friends. Don’t get too much sun!) — YUR
