CNEBH  =  BENCH,  RTYDA  =  TARDY,  ASFCIO  =  FIASCO,  RDEHNC  =  DRENCH   —   Giving us:  BTARASRE

Clue/Question:  It didn’t take long for Richard Starkey‘s parents to realize he was going to . . .

Answer:  BE A STARR

(Wow!  How many of you had to back into “fiasco” like I did?  The other three clue words were pretty obvious, but I had to look at the cartoon, *figure out* the answer, and then try to come up with a word with an “A” and an “S” in those positions.  Even knowing what I needed didn’t make it any more obvious.  It still took some thought!  Great drawing, Jeff!  And, in case you hadn’t heard, Ringo Starr – nee Richard Starkey – turned 71 this morning!  Happy Birthday, Ringo!  Many, many more, please.  The world needs its icons!  Be well, friends.)   —   YUR

Me to; I got fiasco exactly like you did, and it wasn’t easy. I almost gave up and was about to go to your blog before I got the word, but I toughed it out. Kudos to the puzzle makers. Hard to believe Ringo’s 71, and the early Beatles hits are getting on 50 years ago!

Yes, FIASCO was a FIASCO! My Jeffry and I struggled for a long time! Finally, he cheated and told me the first letter because even after knowing the A and S position, I couldn’t get it! Grrrrrrr! Great dedication to Ringo!

    @ DW Taylor,

I know. Ringo doesn’t look 71 at all! And, part of me is always going to see that odd looking mop-top with the big nose. The *comic-relief* of The Beatles, even though John was actually the big wit of the group.

    @ Lesley,

Some words are like that. I’m just glad I didn’t have to put it out there for the gang to bail me out. That woulda been a first. I’ve needed help on the answer a few times, but never on a clue word!

Here’s a fun fact: Yer Uncle Rave shares his birthday with Sir James Paul McCartney!

How come I always get ones everyone else thinks are difficult, yet I struggle sometimes on some easier ones? I saw “fiasco” (and all the others) instantly in this puzzle. Weird how our brains work….

I guess we all have our individual blind spots, Amy!
