Remember, your body needs six to eight glasses of fluid daily – straight up or on the rocks.”   —   P.J. O’Rourke

(I kind of feel like I cheated on this one.  When I looked at the coded author I knew it was going to be P.J. O’Rourke.  I suppose there were other possibilities, but I thought the odds were definitely in my favor.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Visual Description:  A National monumental undertaking in South Dakota.

ETHTE  =  TEETH,  SFSYU  =  FUSSY,  ODLRLA  =  DOLLAR,  PIMIRA  =  IMPAIR   —   Giving us:  EEHUSDORMR

Clue/Question:  They would have finished the project sooner had they done this.

Answer:  RUSHED MORE

(Mount Rushmore!  This was fun!  “Teeth” and “fussy” were pretty obvious, but “dollar” and “impair” were scrambled so you had to think a little.  Nice little pun, and a nice depiction of three of the four iconic U.S. Presidents.  Granite!  Symbolizing strength and integrity.  If they were to make one of our four – or five – most recent Presidents they’d have to use mud and straw!  Throw a little manure in there, too.)   —   YUR

PS.  Sorry this is late.  I received a last minute invitation to my nephew’s high school graduation.  It’s a 2 hour drive, and we were all in a rush to get out of the house in time to make it.  Got back a little after 9:30 PM, but didn’t feel like hopping on the ol’ time sink.   —   YUR

Leo Tolstoy

In difficult circumstances, always act on first impressions.”   —   Leo Tolstoy

(Hmm.  I don’t know.  My first impression was that the Vs were going to be Es!  That wouldn’t have worked out very well.  Would it?!?  But, Leo was a good guy.  So, we can let him slide on this one.)   —   YUR

ARCCK  =  CRACK,  EMTEH  =  THEME,  OBYTNU  =  BOUNTY,  FNUIRA  =  UNFAIR   —   Giving us:  RATEBUFIR

Clue/Question:  The orchard started by Yogi and Smokey was almost certain to do this.

Answer:  BEAR FRUIT

(Fun Friday Fare!  I found the first three clue words to be pretty obvious, but I liked “unfair”.  The answer letters were well scrambled.  The cartoon was cute.  And, the answer made for a nice pun.  Ya can’t really ask for much more.  Now, can you?  Be well, friends.)   —   YUR

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won’t wait while you do the work.”   —   Patricia Clifford

(Fairly prolific producer of TV movies.  Not much info on her that I could find.  And, this is currently the only quotation attributed to her.  At least it’s a good quote!  Life is short.  Some things – usually the best things – come around very infrequently, and are fleeting.  Tell your kids you love them.  Show them, too.)   —   YUR

Numbers 7/52

Visual Description:  A lost episode of “Numbers”?

NUGTR  =  GRUNT,  UEDEX  =  EXUDE,  OGTINW  =  TOWING,  FIDARA  =  AFRAID   —   Giving us:  GUTUDETOIFRI

Clue/Question:  Early on, she struggled to skate in the shape of an eight, but she . . .

Answer:  FIGURED IT OUT

(Cute.  A nice variety of clue words – all well scrambled.  A good depiction of a Figure Skating lesson.  And, nothing was given away in the layout of the answer letters.  Longer answers are generally a bit harder to get, but I thought today’s was actually pretty easy.  Be well . . . and be empathetic, my friends.  We’re all in this together.)   —   YUR

Winged Victory Side

The contemplation of beauty causes the soul to grow wings.”   —   Plato

(Surprisingly, my very first Plato quotation!  And, it’s a great one.  I wonder if the people at Red Bull kind of borrowed from this quote?)   —   YUR

Visual Description:  A hairy experience on the underarm underground.

OTBHO  =  BOOTH,  PUTMH  =  THUMP,  PSIMRH  =  SHRIMP,  OLTETB  =  BOTTLE   —   Giving us:  THTPSIE

Clue/Question:  She thought her subway ride was this.

Answer:  THE PITS

(Just the other day, the wife and I saw this guy walking into a local restaurant in flip-flops, baggy-ass gym shorts, and a wife-beater tee shirt.  We’re not talking haute cuisine, or anything, just your average bar/grille that has fantastic burgers, a wing night, and it generally caters to local families.  I have no problem with casual dining, but that’s going more than a little beyond the pale.  I wouldn’t even show up at a barbeque dressed like that . . . at my own house.  Do these people have even the slightest idea what the word decorum means?  I can remember when I was a small boy, growing up in the bosom of suburbia.  Whenever my mother would go into the city (downtown), she always put on a nice yet conservative dress, sometimes a hat, AND white gloves!  Boy, have things changed since those days!  I’m sure it was a bit of a hassle getting all dressed up, but everybody was SO much more civil with each other.  I don’t think the term “road rage” even existed back then.  Nowadays our society is overrun with angry slobs, who have this bizarre sense of entitlement.  Just because we’re all unique individuals, it doesn’t make us all special and deserving.   —   Poor girl.  Be well and do good, friends.  And, dress like you give a crap.)   —   YUR

GOMRO  =  GROOM,  KWECR  =  WRECK,  RCRYEH  =  CHERRY,  ATLTET  =  TATTLE   —   Giving us:  RMEKCEATT

Clue/Question:  Love at first sight during his run was this.

Answer:  A TRACK MEET

(No swiveling washboards, or Oscars with mutant hands today!  LOL!  Pretty straight forward.  Although, you just never know what might trip some people up.  The usual good scrambling.  The clue words weren’t too difficult, and there was no giveaway in the answer letters.  Hey, it’s my baby girl’s 20th birthday today!  She’s Walking on Sunshine!  In honor of this auspicious occasion they have decided to declare this the First Day of Summer!  Not too shabby!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
