Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 06/26/11

Woody Allen in concert in New York City.

His lack of education is more than compensated for by his keenly developed moral bankruptcy.”   —   Woody Allen

(Wow!  I’d hate to be the subject of that quip!  I wonder if he was talking about a real person, or just a character in one of his stories/manuscripts?  Hmm.  I was always impressed with Woody’s use of vocabulary.  Some readers object to the didactic nature of Unclerave’s Wordy Weblog.  I got that word from a Woody film!  Don’t ask me which one.  Be well and do good, friends!)   —   YUR

Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 06/26/11

Visual Description:  Tidying up on a spacewalk.

NAPETU  =  PEANUT,  ORFTMA  =  FORMAT,  LCLDAE  =  CALLED,  MSRUME  =  SUMMER,  YRTTNA  =  TYRANT,  CVIDOE  =  VOICED   —   Giving us:  EURMCALUEANVC

Clue/Question:  The orbiting space junk turned the astronaut into a . . .

Answer:  VACUUM CLEANER

(I thought this was sufficiently difficult for a Sunday Jumble!  All the clue words were fairly challenging.  And, the answer letters came out in a way as not to give anything away.  English teachers, please critique the previous sentence!  A couple of past tense verbs today.  I’m cool with that, but I know some purists don’t like it.  Oh, yeah!  And, our friend Lesley was correct about “errors” from about a week, or so, ago.  That is just the plural of *error*, a noun.  The verb is: to err.  “Errors” was not a legitimate clue word, Mr. Hoyt.   No complaints, from me, about today’s clue words, though.  Funky looking Great Lakes ya got there, Jeff!  That is what it’s supposed to be, right?  I think you’re missing my Ontario.  Enjoy what’s left of the weekend, guys and gals!)   —   YUR

Remember, your body needs six to eight glasses of fluid daily – straight up or on the rocks.”   —   P.J. O’Rourke

(I kind of feel like I cheated on this one.  When I looked at the coded author I knew it was going to be P.J. O’Rourke.  I suppose there were other possibilities, but I thought the odds were definitely in my favor.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

ETHTE  =  TEETH,  SFSYU  =  FUSSY,  ODLRLA  =  DOLLAR,  PIMIRA  =  IMPAIR   —   Giving us:  EEHUSDORMR

Clue/Question:  They would have finished the project sooner had they done this.

Answer:  RUSHED MORE

(Mount Rushmore!  This was fun!  “Teeth” and “fussy” were pretty obvious, but “dollar” and “impair” were scrambled so you had to think a little.  Nice little pun, and a nice depiction of three of the four iconic U.S. Presidents.  Granite!  Symbolizing strength and integrity.  If they were to make one of our four – or five – most recent Presidents they’d have to use mud and straw!  Throw a little manure in there, too.)   —   YUR

PS.  Sorry this is late.  I received a last minute invitation to my nephew’s high school graduation.  It’s a 2 hour drive, and we were all in a rush to get out of the house in time to make it.  Got back a little after 9:30 PM, but didn’t feel like hopping on the ol’ time sink.   —   YUR
