Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 06/05/11

Little Boxes on the Hillside...

Visual Description:  A runner passing “Little boxes made of ticky tacky”.

MHRIET  =  HERMIT,  ROCUSR  =  CURSOR,  MPGYUR  =  GRUMPY,  SILVHA  =  LAVISH,  KNYISN  =  SKINNY,  ENGRED  =  GENDER   —   Giving us:  HTCROUAISKNGDE

Clue/Question:  The new development appealed to the Olympic runner because it was . . .

Answer:  TRACKED  HOUSING

(Pretty good Sunday Jumble!  Some great clue words, especially “cursor” and “lavish”.  I’m sure ralis95 will be adding to the database!  The scrambling was great across the board.  No gimmes!  Having the ED on the end of “TRACKED” kind of threw me, as I’ve always just heard it referred to as TRACK HOUSING.  But maybe it’s a regional thing . . . one way or t’other!  Either way, it wasn’t much of a stretch getting it.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend, friends.  Be well and do good.)   —   YUR

PS.  “Little Boxes” is a song, originally written and performed by Malvina Reynolds.  (<<<Read all about her!)  It has been covered by scores of artists.  Yer Uncle first heard it from his Mom, who never did – to this day – like “cookie cutter” housing.     YUR

I felt so smart today! My Jeff got HERMIT while awaking from a nap by only hearing the letters again! Smarty pants! But I got the rest quickly, which I never do on the Sunday JUMBLE! Then I thought the first word in the solution was HOUSING! Suddenly I thought to put it second and TRACKED fit right in! I must read more about Malvina! So long for now! 🙂

Hi — tracked is a play on the word tract housing. Check it out. Good jumbles today, I could not get cursor, yet when I read the letters out loud, my daughter in law responded instantly with the correct answer. Go figure.

THAT’S the ticket, Liz! It IS “tract” housing! Duh! (on me) On the *all the info that’s fit for bits* internet you get “tract”, “track” and “tracked” housing. But TRACT is the TRUE term, as in: an indefinite stretch, or defined area, of land.

i was thrown by the fact that gardens could have been one of the 2 words inthe solution but tracked housing was very clever
