(Classic. EVERYTHING was well-scrambled, today! It doesn’t even matter that the answer was pretty darn obvious. The whole thing worked. There is a major problem in this country, with the legal/prison system, that many are not aware of. Time was that all the prisons were run either by the federal government, by the individual states, or by counties and cities. But there was a big build up of private prisons, and also the privatization of existing prisons, that took off in the 1980s, and today has become a VERY big business. The original idea was that by contracting out, to these private entities, the government could save a lot of money. But, the result has been that since the 1980s the incarceration rate in the United States has TRIPLED. And, the so-called savings have never materialized. Some studies show that the private (for profit) prisons cost MORE than the ones still run by the government. And, of course, these for-profit prisons are being paid for with OUR tax dollar$. Plus, with the private prisons the prison staffs are less well trained, which has resulted in increased prison violence and escapes. And, there is the direct correlation between the growth of these FOR-PROFIT prisons and the incarceration rate. There are A LOT of non-violent “criminals” in these places, and we’re all paying A LOT of $$.$$ to keep them there. It’s not JUST for them, and this kind of INJUSTICE is not good for our society as a whole. It’s yet another example of the dangers of unfettered capitalism. It is a mess, my friends. We can do better.) — YUR
