(Boy, does this one ever seem familiar! Not necessarily the clue words, but the cartoon. I’m pretty sure we had a similar one a month or so ago. I had some trouble getting “trudge”, but at least I didn’t have to back into it today! And, that’s good because I probably couldn’t have gotten the answer without those last three letters. Doesn’t “ogchu” sound more like a sneeze than a “cough”? I hate smoking. Especially around food. But, I think some of today’s anti-smoking legislation just goes WAY too far. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for smokers, but I don’t think it’s right to legislate them as pariahs either. It’s become a state sponsored obsession. It’s nearly as bad as the hysteria over “terrorism” and “security”. Why can’t cooler heads prevail? Be good is for dogs and children. Questioning things keeps your brain in working order. It took me all of five minutes to un-scramble the word clues and most of the day to figure out detectors. I was bless(ed) and didn’t cough while I enjoyed the decent trudge up the Wordsmith Mountain. I am an ex-smoker and therefore do not have sympathy for smokers. Stinky ash-trays aren’t fun to kiss.
Hey there, Richard! Where you been? I was never a serious smoker, so I didn’t really have to “quit”. Not like you *addicts*. You are the guys who are usually the biggest zealots when it comes to the anti-smoking campaigns. I’m a live and let live kind of guy. I kinda pity the poor bastards who can’t, or won’t, quit. But, I still think they should have SOME rights. But, I’m definitely with you on the *horrors* of kissing ashtrays! Yuk!!!

Smoked myself for 2 years only! My hubby is still trying to quit after hypnosis, Chantix, electronic device, acupunture, cold turkey, and patches. Any more suggestions? I gave up on the solution for today’s JUMBLE and cheated, but the clue words were fairly easy! Enjoy the sun! I went to the Summer Kick-off with WPLJ and WPIX at PPBeach! Saw all the early news gals! FUN!
Great day for the beach! I was out in the sun for our weekly peace vigil. Sun block prevented me from burning, but it couldn’t prevent the heat from draining all the energy out of me. Even after cool refreshments, I feel like I could go to sleep right now. But, I’ve got to post today’s spoilers, then walk the dog, etc., etc.

Thanks for having this answer. DETECTORS was a killer, I could not get it. It usually takes me a minute to solve all the clues and the final, but this one was brutal — probably because DETECTORS isn’t really the entire answer; Smoke _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ would have been more realistic.
