Jumble Spoiler – 04/27/11

Original 1952 Mr Potato Head boxed set

Visual Description:  Mr. Tuber-head buttering up Mrs. Tuber-head.

AWFHR  =  WHARF,  LPTIO  =  PILOT,  ESEORT  =  STEREO,  PTEREM  =  TEMPER   —   Giving us:  WAPOTSTOTEE

Clue/Question:  What he was when he brought home flowers for the Mrs.

Answer:  A SWEET POTATO

(I know it’s not a new word, but “stereo” always gives me a little trouble.  The other clue words came rather quickly, despite being well-scrambled.  The answer letters didn’t give away the answer, too.  I can’t imagine anybody having too much difficulty getting the answer, unless you grew up never owning a Mr. Potato Head or you never saw any of the “Toy Story” movies.  I love that he’s voiced by Don Rickles in the movies.  Mr. Rickles is a national treasure.  He may not be quite as sharp tongued as he used to be, but sometimes all he has to do is just roll his eyes, and he cracks me up!  Be well, friends.)   —   YUR

    YUR:
STEREO may not be “new” to you, but it sure wasn’t part of the database which goes back almost a decade. WHARF and TEMPER are also new, as were CHILL, SMIRK, and TRAUMA yesterday and AWAIT and THIRST the day before. At the rate they’re going, they will hit 2500 words before we know it.

Maybe with a different scrambling, or maybe it’s a similar word to STEREO, I don’t know. It just seemed very familiar to me, ralis95. I suspected some of the other words were “new” as well, but it just seems hard to believe that they would have limited themselves to so relatively few words. I’m happy to see them opening things up. It keeps things fresh and it provides for a little more challenge. The more words the merrier!

I thought we had STEREO also, but then maybe it was VIDEO. I feel like Mrs. Potato head about now! I had that kit when I was a kid, and I think I had the nurse’s/doctor’s kit also. The commercial was priceless. Thanks! The puzzle was fairly easy since I got SWEET POTATO after a glance, a walk away, and a retry. Sweet potato fries are just heavenly, and I saw a commercial for Oreda(sp) sweet potato fries today, so I am getting them. Thanks, guys for making me hungry!
