Coat of Arms: 3 Gold Lions on a Red Field

The bird of paradise alights only upon the hand that does not grasp.”   —   John Berry

(This would appear to be the John Berry who was an English Naval officer, who later became a prominent Jersey Boy!  The quote is sometimes cited from a story/book called Flight of White Crows, but it’s hard to pin this to the same John Berry.  Regardless, it is a great quotation, and kind of surprising coming from someone from the age of Manifest Destiny.)   —   YUR

Mixed martial arts

Visual Description:  An MMA (Mixed Medium Arrangement) scene.

HLCIL  =  CHILL,  MSIKR  =  SMIRK,  ARATMU  =  TRAUMA,  VRSYOA  =  SAVORY   —   Giving us:  HLSMRTAAAR

Clue/Question:  When the lawman took a painting class, he created . . .

Answer:  MARSHAL ART

(Nice pun!  I had fun with both “smirk” and “trauma”.  “Chill” was pretty easy, but it could be a new word.  And, I know we’ve seen “savory” numerous times.  Initially, I didn’t even notice that the instructor was dressed as a sensei.  I don’t think it was really necessary in getting the answer, so I’ll consider this a bonus clue.  The clue words and the answer letters were all scrambled with foresight.  That’s about it, kids.  Any questions?  Then all of you, go out in the world and do good.  And of course, be well.)   —   YUR

PS.  I still prefer the individual contests/sports over this hodgepodge of disciplines.   —   YUR
