Jumble Spoiler – 04/05/11

Taken by Danny Zumwalt at a TOC event.

Visual Description:  Tardy participant to the weekly, friendly card game.

EKGOC  =  GECKO,  ENEFC  =  FENCE,  GFITHR  =  FRIGHT,  DBITNA  =  BANDIT —   Giving us:  EOFEFRTBT

Clue/Question:  What the poker player was when he was late for the game.

Answer:  BETTER OFF

(Not bad.  Good scrambling all around.  I liked seeing “gecko” as the lead-off clue word.  Maybe Google Adsense will generate a Geico ad today! I think Mr. Hoyt kind of missed the opportunity of a good old cheesy pun, by not going for BETTOR OFF.  Instead of ENEFC he could have gone with DNOFR, or TNOFR, and just move the second circle over one spot.  That would’ve provided the second “O”.  Whadaya think, guys?  Artful wordplay is supposed to exemplify the Jumble.  Right?  Who’s yer Uncle? Congrats to the UConn Huskies on winning the National Championship.  I did not watch it, and I understand it was pretty one-sided, but I’m glad for Jim Calhoun.  By winning his third NCAA title he has joined a very prestigious fraternity.  Nice going, Pops!  Be well, friends.)   — YUR
