Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 04/03/11

Ike Davis

Three o’clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do.”   — Jean-Paul Sartre

(Surprisingly, this is the first Sartre quotation I’ve come upon doing the cryptoquote!  Not his most profound utterance, but thought provoking and truthful.  Nice extra innings comeback victory, after blowing a ninth inning lead, by my Mets last night.  K-Rod has got to be the most relieved of the Mets.  If they had ended up losing the game he would’ve been the goat.  But, it ended up as a great first win for the new skipper, Terry Collins.  Congrats, boss-man!  It was a well-coached game.)   — YUR

PS.  Zemanta has GOT TO update their Mets pictures!  Plenty of Ex-Mets photos out there, but Ike Davis was the only current player available. YUR

(Contemporary) Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 04/03/11

Benq laptop

Visual Description:  Mary Hatch . . . if she hadn’t met George Bailey?

ATAVRA  =  AVATAR,  CBERAH  =  BREACH,  CDFETE  =  DEFECT,  HLIGYH  =  HIGHLY,  PLAOPT  =  LAPTOP,  RTUTRE  =  TURRET —   Giving us:  AAABCDEEHILLOPRRT

Clue/Question:  The head librarian gave her assistant one.

Answer:  ALPHABETICAL ORDER

(Wowsers! ralis95 might be able to qualify this, but I can’t remember seeing either “avatar” of “laptop” before.  OK, maybe “laptop”, because they like to throw us off with compound words, from time to time.  And, I bet “turret” has been in mothballs for quite a while.  I’m guessing 17 answer letters would also seem to be some kind of record.  And, the answer letters were today’s “bonus clue” . . . if you didn’t happen to notice.  They all played out in perfect alphabetical order!  As I was writing out the answer letters – after getting each clue word – I started to notice the pattern developing, so I also wrote the missing letters above them.  Thinking that they might be some kind of clue as well.  But, after looking at the cartoon I quickly discarded that idea, and concentrated on the answer letters.  You know, on their own merit.   Because of the great, and very intentional, scrambling of the answer letters, and the fact that the first word was 12 letters long, I was a little intimidated.  I guess the cartoon must’ve enlightened me, because it suddenly became so clear.  I can’t really say that this is the hardest Jumble I’ve ever done, but I will say that it’s the most cleverly crafted Jumble I’ve ever seen.  Kudos, to Mssrs. Hoyt and Knurek!  Great teamwork, guys!  And, speaking of teamwork.  Congrats to both the Butler Bulldogs and UConn, on making it to the big dance.  I think that UConn is very fortunate that the Kentucky Wildcats shot an uncharacteristic 33.9% for the game, but ya gotta give the Huskies credit.  Great game, guys.  So now, instead of the championship game being between cats and dogs, we’re being treated to a classic dog fight!  Hey!  Didn’t Michael Vick get in trouble for this kind of behavior???  Be well, do good, friends.)   — YUR
