Cryptoquote Spoiler – 04/01/11

John Wooden reprint

A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment.”   — John Wooden

(The world is sorely in need of more coaches.  Constructive criticism needs to be both tempered and tailored, to the intended.  Some hearty souls can take the brutal truth, while most of us require a certain amount of stroking.  I solved today’s without first ascertaining the letter “e”, which is unusual for me.  It’s nice to surprise yourself from time to time.  Be careful out there today, friends.  It’s April Fools Day.)   — YUR

I went after the longest words to start with – thinking the first one might be COLLECTION. But then, the other long one didn’t solve, so I changed the L’s to R’s and the rest fell into place. I thought the single A or I might be helpful, but it turned out only to help solve COACH. Good puzzle, though!

I guess great minds think alike! I too toyed with COLLECTION, which helped me get COACH. From there it was off to the races! I almost always have more fun solving the Cryptoquote. There’s a little more challenge – no clue/question, no cartoon – than in solving the Jumble. Can’t live without either one though!
