Visual Description: Clash of the titanic egos.
EWELH = WHEEL, CTBHA = BATCH, RIHNKS = SHRINK, WSRPAL = SPRAWL — Giving us: WATSRSRA
Clue/Question: Celebrity battles can sometimes turn into . . .
Answer: STAR WARS
(Dave is giving us a lot of single vowel words, lately. Maybe he’s trying to make a point? All the clue words were well-scrambled, as were the answer letters. Not a real challenger today, though. Can’t tell if Jeff was going for anyone in particular with the cartoon characters. The older guy could be a Burt Reynolds/Jack Nicholson combo, and the younger guy could be a Owen Wilson/Matthew McConaughey hybrid. But, they’re probably just your generic crusty veteran vs. brash upstart. Enjoy the weekend. Do good and be well, friends.) — YUR
PS. Did you guys get my “bonus clue??? — YUR 🙂
“Now the thing about having a baby – and I can’t be the first person to have noticed this – is that thereafter you have it.” — Jean Kerr
(Nice long quotation to end the week. Exactly what this is supposed to mean I haven’t a clue. Maybe some Mommy can explain it to me?) — YUR
Visual Description: Marvin the Martian slumming with the Earthlings.
ADIYS = DAISY, ARGTN = GRANT, EBPELB = PEBBLE, TKAECJ = JACKET — Giving us: DAINTLEAE
Clue/Question: The Martian didn’t like taking the bus because it made him feel . . .
Answer: “ALIENATED“
(A little send-up to Bugs Bunny and all the wonderful Looney Tunes characters. Something us aging Baby Boomers can appreciate. Warner Bros. made some of the best cartoons, of all time! As simple as the word is, I can’t remember ever seeing “grant” before. And maybe, “daisy” and “pebble” too. ralis95 can give us the final word on what will be added to to the jumble clue word database. I’m pretty sure we’ve had “jacket” before. The answer totally makes sense, but I definitely wouldn’t say that it was easy to get. Because of the phrasing of the clue/question, I figured it had to end in “ed”. After that, it all just kinda fell into place. Very good scrambling, today, Dave. And, a very good likeness of Marvin, Jeff. Enjoy this wonderful Spring day, friends!) — YUR

“Celebrate all the things you don’t like about yourself – love yourself.” — Lady Gaga
(AKA: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta . . . especially to her mom and dad. The girl out-Madonnas Madonna! Her style is said to be inspired by the great glam rockers David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, and Elton John. She has a very strong social conscience, and is not afraid to express her political views. The youngsters really seem to really love her. I can tolerate her . . . in small doses . . . just like I could Madonna. Not all that big on Pop music. I’ll die a Rocker, thank you! Move over Lady Astor! Lady Gaga is now only the second “Lady” in my WordPress Tag database. And, you know how I love the ladies!) — YUR
Visual Description: Run-down refuse retriever relating his wretchedness.
AEWTH = WHEAT, IWNHY = WHINY, SIOGPS = GOSSIP, CVATNA = VACANT — Giving us: WAWNYGSIAAT
Clue/Question: The garbage man was this while putting in so much overtime.
Answer: WASTING AWAY
(What is not to like? Great scrambling. Great pun. And, a cartoon with no unnecessary bonus clues! At first glance, I thought I was going to have more trouble unscrambling the answer letters. But, it just kind of fell into place. None of the words seemed new to me, but ya never know! Be well and do good, my friends.) — YUR
“Obsessed by a fairy tale, we spend our lives searching for a magic door and a lost kingdom of peace.” — Eugene O’Neill
(Ah, Eugene! Almost always the pessimist. A certain amount of unrest is inevitable in this world of ours. Despite our high opinion of ourselves humans are still relatively primitive. I think that most of us would be satisfied with a relative peace, and we could tolerate justifiable wars. Most people object more to being lied and manipulated into supporting the “wrong” wars. No one likes the feeling of being used.) — YUR
Visual Description: Mr. Tuber-head buttering up Mrs. Tuber-head.
AWFHR = WHARF, LPTIO = PILOT, ESEORT = STEREO, PTEREM = TEMPER — Giving us: WAPOTSTOTEE
Clue/Question: What he was when he brought home flowers for the Mrs.
Answer: A SWEET POTATO
(I know it’s not a new word, but “stereo” always gives me a little trouble. The other clue words came rather quickly, despite being well-scrambled. The answer letters didn’t give away the answer, too. I can’t imagine anybody having too much difficulty getting the answer, unless you grew up never owning a Mr. Potato Head or you never saw any of the “Toy Story” movies. I love that he’s voiced by Don Rickles in the movies. Mr. Rickles is a national treasure. He may not be quite as sharp tongued as he used to be, but sometimes all he has to do is just roll his eyes, and he cracks me up! Be well, friends.) — YUR
“The bird of paradise alights only upon the hand that does not grasp.” — John Berry
(This would appear to be the John Berry who was an English Naval officer, who later became a prominent Jersey Boy! The quote is sometimes cited from a story/book called Flight of White Crows, but it’s hard to pin this to the same John Berry. Regardless, it is a great quotation, and kind of surprising coming from someone from the age of Manifest Destiny.) — YUR
Visual Description: An MMA (Mixed Medium Arrangement) scene.
HLCIL = CHILL, MSIKR = SMIRK, ARATMU = TRAUMA, VRSYOA = SAVORY — Giving us: HLSMRTAAAR
Clue/Question: When the lawman took a painting class, he created . . .
Answer: “MARSHAL“ ART
(Nice pun! I had fun with both “smirk” and “trauma”. “Chill” was pretty easy, but it could be a new word. And, I know we’ve seen “savory” numerous times. Initially, I didn’t even notice that the instructor was dressed as a sensei. I don’t think it was really necessary in getting the answer, so I’ll consider this a bonus clue. The clue words and the answer letters were all scrambled with foresight. That’s about it, kids. Any questions? Then all of you, go out in the world and do good. And of course, be well.) — YUR
PS. I still prefer the individual contests/sports over this hodgepodge of disciplines. — YUR
