“Television has brought back murder into the home — where it belongs.” — Alfred Hitchcock
(What a great, wry sense of humor. I was a little young for the “Golden Age of Television“, but I’ve seen plenty of re-runs of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and, of course The Twilight Zone. Great stuff! That might be partly why I like the series of Geico commercials, where the overly serious guy introduces the scenarios – a la Rod Serling. The guy is good. He’s kind of a cross between Serling and David Boreanaz. I especially like the one where he questions: Was Abe Lincoln honest? To me, that commercial is pure genius! Just about all the Geico commercials work for me, on some level. The talking gecko and his kinda dim boss, the mortified cavemen, and especially the Serling-esque introduced ones. But, I don’t care for the two to tango one. It just comes off as kind of awkward. Oh. By the way, this is the first Hitchcock quote since I’ve been posting the cryptoquote spoilers. Glad it was vintage Hitchcock. Do good, friends.) — YUR
The Abe Lincoln one is a classic! Love it! My husband stops everything to watch it!
Same here! It’s got to be the full length one, though. They have a slightly abbreviated one that cuts out a little of his hesitation. His anguished hesitation is what MAKES it really work! The attention to detail is fantastic, too. It looks like it was shot by Matthew Brady . . . if they had had moving pictures at the time. I think if the real Abe Lincoln were to have – somehow – seen it he’d laugh his ass off!
