“Friendship is a word, the very sight of which in print makes the heart warm.” — Augustine Birrell
(This must be the guy who started Hallmark greeting cards! The very sight of this quote leaves me a little cold. I guess it’s just a little too schmaltzy for me. On Monday mornings I’m in no mood for schmaltz. Even with two cups of coffee under my belt. Follow the golden rule, my friends: Don’t kill thy neighbor.) — YUR 🙂
Never heard of Augustine Burrell, and the lack of any Bs or Ls in the quote made the name impossible to decipher.
I’d never heard of the guy, as well. When I get to a name I’ve never heard of I just run down the letters that haven’t been used yet, and try to employ some deductive reasoning. I figured (with the given letters) the name wouldn’t (likely) start with a “J” or “Q” or “X” or “Z”, and the double at the end of the last name kind of defaulted to “L”. That’s one of the things I really like about solving the cryptoquote. Discovering speakers and writers I’ve never heard of before!
