From left to right: Bill Clinton, George H. W....

There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right in America.”   — William J. Clinton

(This is from his 1st Inaugural Address, in January of 1993.  Great man-of-the-people quote!  But of course, our Billy-boy was paraphrasing a quote from an earlier President:  Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Too bad Bubba didn’t give credit where credit was due.  Here’s Ike’s version, and you tell me whether Bill should have referenced his predecessor:  “There is nothing wrong with America that the faith, love of freedom, intelligence and energy of her citizens cannot cure.”  Now, I don’t know about you, but I’d say that the positives that Ike cited would generally be acknowledged as, at least, some of “what is right in America”.  Now, I would still take Bill Clinton over George W. Bush, in a heartbeat.  But, over the years I have lost so much respect for the man.  And, in turn, the office of the Presidency, and our so-called two-party “system”.  The “incident” at Ruby Ridge – which actually happened under George H. W. Bush’s watch, the siege/massacre at Waco Texas, and the Elian Gonzalez debacle showed us all just how brutal our federal government can be.  Essentially, the federal government can, and will do, whatever they think they have to, no matter the cost or consequences.  These kind of abuses of federal power are, for me, the cornerstones of my questioning the “official” accounts of the events of September the 11th, 2001.  But, I don’t want to get into that megillah, today.  What I’m saying is, it’s like we’re living in an extended good cop/bad cop scenario.  Arguably, Reagan was a “good cop” and Papa Bush was a “bad cop”.  Then Clinton was – again, arguably – a “good cop” and Duh-bya was the “bad cop”.  And, now we have Mr. Obama, who is our so-called “good cop”.  The whole who was/is “good” vs. who was/is “bad” is totally subjective, but my point is that they are, essentially, all the same.  They – the powerful – are just taking turns, running the country and running our lives.  We have been, and continue to be, gamed.  Our country desperately needs a viable third party.  It is the only way we will ever escape this loop of insanity.  Now, I’m not a fan of the Tea Party movement.  Mostly because there are just too many thinly veiled overtones of racism and reactionism.  I am hearing that the Working Families Party has been making great strides in getting on recent ballots.  This kind of momentum needs to be built upon and encouraged!  There is most definitely room for 3, or more, political parties in our great country.  We just need to fight, and break out of, this two-party system mindset.  If we don’t, then we’ll continue get the good cop/bad cop routine.  And, the take turns gang will continue to laugh at us . . . all the way to the bank.)   — YUR

    Good points.

Sadly, the presidential election and most elections now are about how well someone looks on camera.

In some ways goes back to 1960 probably. I think the people made the right choice there, but did they pay attention to
Pres. Eisenhower’s farewell address? He warned of the expansion of US industrial military complex.
And or generals have become thugs, rather than military intelligence. US will go route of other empires- implode.

That can, and probably will, happen . . . if we (the people) allow it to progress, without challenging it. Our corporate media does such a good job of dumbing us down. That is one reason why I like what Julian Assange is doing with WikiLeaks. They try to portray him as an anarchist – or worse yet, a “terrorist” – but that’s only because the things he has “leaked” shines a light on the dark/ugly/embarrassing parts of our government. We can still be that “bright shining city on the hill”, but we have to get back to walking the walk. And, not just talking the talk.
