“History is a tool used by politicians to justify their intentions.” — Ted Koppel
(With the way this is stated it kind of implies a fairly narrow definition of history. And, I doubt Mr. Koppel actually holds such an opinion. I think what he probably intended – and, to me, this makes much more sense – to say is: Politicians use history as a tool to justify their intentions. He was making a statement about politicians, not about history. But what do I know? I’m just your average wise guy with a keyboard. What do you English majors think? Or, how about Mr. Koppel himself? Would Ted like to clarify this statement, or set Uncle Rave straight?) — YUR
