“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” — Mark Twain
(This is something that the conservative right-wing, pro-war/support our troopers just don’t seem to get. Those who are against the invasion and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq, and those who actively protest against these actions, are not anti-American. And, they’re certainly NOT against the troops. The protest/peace vigils are demonstrations of dis-satisfaction with our government’s decisions to wage these wars of occupation. You won’t see a single sign that says Down With America, or anything negative towards our country, or the men and women, who are serving in these wars of choice. You will see various signs that point out the crippling costs of these wars, both in terms of the financial burden on our struggling/drowning economy, and in terms of the lives lost and the mangled bodies and minds. You will also see signs that say where these war funds could be better spent, and some that question who is profiting from these wars. The pro-war counter-protesters rely on the single, emotion eliciting, and erroneous-minded sign of Support Our Troops. It is erroneous-minded because the war protesters/peace vigilers are not against the troops, and putting our brave men and women in harm’s way – for what amounts to wars of choice – is NOT something that most rational people would call supportive.) — YUR
