“Each problem that I solved became a rule, which served afterwards to solve other problems.” — Rene Descartes
(“I write the songs that make the whole world sing!” Wow. Was Rene Descartes the Barry Manilow of his day, or what??? JKLOL! Seemingly, this is my first Descartes quotation. Could that be possible?) — YUR

Ahhhh wordsmiths, even though this word is not in the dictionary it was fun. I looked in the O.E.D. (Oxford English Dictionary). The closest word is spelled with two a’s. When and if you do crossword puzzles you will find puzzle designers do the same wordgame motif. I have seen Ava Gardner spelled Eva and Ivy (Spanish). So, the motive is to have fun, right. Yeah, I did enjoy this puzzle even though it took me fifteen minutes to get past goatee.
for Oct 29: The first name is NOT David since few words end in v. (the first word ends in r). The first name is Roger which eventually leads to the correct quote.
Hey, bud!
I actually got the “ing” and “and” first. The tt in “battered” helped me a lot, too. I didn’t get the name until I was about 1/2 to 2/3s done. I wasn’t even looking for David, which is kind of ironic. This cryptoquote wasn’t a gimme, by a long shot. No words ending in “E”, and no single letter words. I can see a lot of folks having a difficult time with this one.
