Lena Horne: June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010

The Lovely Lena

The lovely and talented – and gracious – Ms. Lena Horne lived a remarkable and memorable life.  Movies, recordings, stage and television, and nightclubs and concerts.   She won a multitude of awards and honors for the gifts that she shared with the world.  She was involved with the civil rights movement long before it was deemed fashionable, and she lived her life the way she saw fit.  Widely considered one of the most beautiful women in the world, she seemed to be ageless.  She was Alicia Keys before there was an Alicia Keys, and Halle Berry before there was a Halle Berry.  She was one of yer uncle’s earliest boyhood crushes.  One that never really ended.  An American original!  The incomparable Ms. Horne was one amazing lady, who will be sorely missed . . . but never forgotten.

“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” – Lena Horne

Very few people have ever carried themselves better.
