Memorial Day Cryptoquote Spoiler – 05/31/10

This will remain the land of the free only as long as it is the home of the brave.”   — Elmer Davis

(Fortunately, Elmer never lived to see the implementation of the USA PATRIOT Act.  The most oversold word of this new millennium?  “SECURITY”  With this in mind, and on this auspicious day, I think we all should remember the words of the late great General Douglas MacArthur:  There’s no security on this earth.  Only opportunity. Peace be with you, my friends.)   — YUR

It’s a day of remembrance, and not just a Monday holiday to start off the Summer season.)   — YUR

The nice thing about being a celebrity is that when you bore people, they think it’s their fault.”   — Henry Kissinger

Live now, believe me, wait not till tomorrow; gather the roses of life today.”   — Pierre de Ronsard

(Tough?) Jumble Spoiler – 05/27/10

Clue/Question:  The kind of sale the beer vendor held near the end of the game.

Answer:  LIQUIDATING S/BLIQUIDATION

(Maybe it’s just me, but this one took me a while today.  The clue words I got immediately.  But, with the answer I kept trying for some variant of “delinquent”, and anything with “quant” in it.  I played around with “quota” too, but didn’t think they’d have one of their clue words in the answer.  I think putting the Q up front, and having a word like “quota” in the game, was intentional . . . and pretty smart.  They had me going!)   — YUR

PS.  I really shouldn’t kid around with Cubs fans.  I’m a die-hard Mets fan.  These last few years have been brutal.  Especially following the infamous ’06 meltdown!

(Big THANKS, to Don!  I guess I was so jazzed at getting the LIQUID portion of the answer that I spaced on the ending!  Sorry, guys.  I’ll try to not let it happen again.  No promises though.)   —   YUR
