Visual Description: Upset couple leaving the kitschy restaurant.
DUGAY = GAUDY, PHOWO = WHOOP, FARITY = RATIFY, GUNJEL = JUNGLE — Giving us: ADWORTUN
Clue/Question: The couple left the restaurant because the accordion music was . . .
Answer: “DRAWN” OUT
(I almost put this one up for grabs, today! I first came up with ROUND WAT or ROUND TAW, but those didn’t make ANY sense. Then I came up with WOUND ART, which arguably makes sense, due to the woman saying that her “ears hurt”. But, even that seemed like a stretch, for numerous reasons. Then the word DROWN came to me, but I couldn’t do anything with AUT. Then finally, the light went on, and I saw “DRAWN” OUT. And, it made sense, considering how an accordion makes music. Some great clue words, and good scrambling of the answer letters as well! Hope this didn’t drive some of you nuts . . . like the poor couple in the cartoon!) — YUR

I always go for the short 3-4 letter words first, (when there are any) making a list of them, then listing the remaining letters beside each to see if any words come through. I was lucky to see “OUT” right away and “DRAWN” quickly fell into place. Seemed to fit, so I used it. But, because of your excellent history of correct answers, I always check my answers with yours to be sure.
Thank you, RALIS95! Theoretically, there are a ton of 3 letter words – “ton” being one – from the available letters, but I catch your drift. Next toughie I’ll try your way.! — YUR
RALIS95, I had the exact same luck with this puzzle. I also look for the short word first. I saw “out” almost right away also; the “drawn” was also very helpful. I did do a double take and looked to make sure I didn’t record my letters incorrectly. I thought for a moment that the first word was “drown” but obviously our first impulse was correct. Nice challenging puzzle today!

I have one other comment for your consideration – I notice you consistently list all the letters in the order they appear in the puzzle. But, if you separate the vowels (in alpha order) from the consonants (again in alpha order) a lot of words just naturally jump out to your eyes. In those cases where words don’t readily “appear” I reverse the order of the consonants and try again.
I think I’ll keep posting ’em the same way, RALIS95. (Consistency reasons) But, if I ever run into a real toughie I’ll give your method a try. Thanks for the suggestion, bud!
