Clue/Question: A state bachelor skiers avoid.
Answer: MATRIMONY
(Uhhh . . . no comments on their map. Okay?) — YUR
Am I dense? I don’t get what skiing has to do with “matrimony”.
ps. if it were me writing it, I’d do something like:
Q: A state upbeat skiers avoid.
A. Depression
It’s often referred to as *the state of matrimony*, ron. You know, as in *marital status*. — YUR
ps. It’s rumored that the writers sometimes read this board. Maybe they’ll take a cue from you, ron. — YUR
I second Ron; the “skiers” bit through me off, and it has nothing to do with the answer. I was thinking about bastardizations of “Maryland” (ie, Marryland)…
The key word in the clue was *bachelor*, JW. Their activity/profession/sport was semi-irrelevant, accepting that snow skiers would avoid the state of Florida (the map) like a confirmed bachelor would avoid the state of matrimony.
