Independent Pennsylvanian Women!

I’d like you to do me a favor.  I’d like you to do yourself a favor.  Be truly independent.  Forget about “sisterhood”.  Forget about “feminism”.  You’re more than a sister.  You’re more than feminist.  Heck, you’re even more than a woman.  You are an INDIVIDUAL.  You are fully capable of truly independent thought.  (I say capable because the effects of indoctrination and conditioning are extremely difficult, for any of, us to overcome.  We’re all enamored with the idea of free will, but we are actually, all of us, the products of our experiences and our environment.)

Please, do not take this plea as condescending.  I am very sincere.  But also, I am very concerned that many of you may feel compelled, or obligated, in one way or another, to vote for Hillary Clinton.  She does have many good qualities . . . as does her opponent, Barack Obama.  I even voted for her, for the Senate . . . twice.  But, I won’t be voting for her in this primary.  Her refusal to apologize for her vote, authorizing President Bush to use military force in dealing with Iraq (in late 2002) is very disturbing.  As is her inability to admit that it was a mistake.  People who can’t seem to apologize (and, I don’t mean ONLY when caught in a lie), or won’t admit to a mistake are either insecure or arrogant, or maybe both.  Saying that she was mislead – and leaving it at that – just does not cut it.  If she was so experienced, in these types of presidential matters, as she now touts herself to be, how could she allow herself to be so badly mislead?  There were plenty of counter arguments, from reliable sources, at that time.  She, like many other Democrats in Congress, simply caved in to pressures from the Bush administration.  Saying she was mislead is very disingenuous of her.

I could go on and on about other reasons Mrs. Clinton has disappointed me, but I want to get back to the main reason for my plea.  A woman that I know, who is a Republican mind you – and who has even written a book(let) praising President Bush -told me in late November that she is for Hillary!?!  Now, she hasn’t had a change of heart, or some political epiphany, because she told me that if Hillary does not become the Democratic nominee then she will support Mitt Romney!  Obviously he’s gone, so presumably she will vote for McCain if Hillary doesn’t get the nomination.  How one can go from a semi-liberal Democratic candidate, to the self-proclaimed more conservative Republican candidate, is definitely one for the books!  I don’t know how many other extreme examples of this misguided sisterhood are out there, but I do know that there are many women, who – subconsciously – support Hillary, JUST because she is a woman.  My plea is a reminder that it doesn’t have to be this way.  Please, consider ALL the attributes and ALL the positions of each candidate . . . before you make up your mind, and . . . before enter that voting booth.

Thank you, for your kind consideration and patience in reading this.
